Travel Restrictions During lockdown in various states

India which is considered as a land of temples, monuments, sculptures and pilgrimage attracts millions of tourists each year, which has made tourism an inevitable part of the economy. Tourists from India and abroad visits thousands of hotspots that are well known and also the places which are still unknown to many (Travel Guidelines).

With the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic across the nation, which came as a surprise to everyone. People are stuck in the boundaries of their homes due to the lockdown that has been imposed worldwide and to further contribute to the same all international & domestic flights have been cancelled, the hold has been put on the conveyance of Railways and buses as well. Apart from all these rules and regulations have been imposed nationwide on tourist spots and places. It has not only impacted the travel industry but has impacted the entire economy. The reason being travel sector is one of the major contributors to the economy.

Today in this article we are going to discuss about the restrictions that have been imposed on the major tourist spots in India and what are the guidelines that have been laid down.

  1. Himachal Pradesh: Also referred to as heaven on earth, Himachal Pradesh provides a scintillating view of mountains and waterfalls. It is one of the major tourist attraction spots and the top contributor to the tourism industry.

Restrictions Imposed in Himachal During lockdown:

  • The minimum stay of duration has been reduced over multiple locations to 2 nights.
  • The tourists who wish to visit Himachal Pradesh and other destinations spread across need to get Trunaat/CB Naat Test (Negative) report as an alternate to RT-PCR test, accredited by authorized laboratory within a period of 96 hours till the state border.
  • Children’s less than 10 years of age are exempted from compulsory testing provided all accompanying adults show their valid reports.
  • Registeration is compulsory 24 hours prior to visit Himachal Pradesh under tourist category on
  • Tourists must have to download Aarogya Setu app.


  1. GOA: GOA which is considered as paradise for youngsters or newly married has also imposed a lot of restrictions.
  • On arrival to GOA if a tourist provides COVID-19 negative certificate issued by an ICMR-accredited/recognized lab. It should not be older than 48 hours prior arriving to GOA.
  • It has been made mandate to register for hotel in advance and the same will be verified upon arrival to GOA.
  • If the tourist is in possession of COVID-19 negative reports. He / She can directly proceed to the accommodations that have been booked in advance. If COVID 19 certificate/report is not presented, the tourist will be asked to get tested for COVID-19 at the authorized testing centers/hospitals.
  • If any tourists who wishes to move from their actual booking for a stay in Goa, it will only be sanctioned with the approval & will of the accommodating units run by the tourism department. The tourist will have to produce the proof of re-booking to the Rapid Response Leader of the hotel/accommodation unit before they can be moved from the original accommodation.
  1. Jammu & Kashmir (J&K): The most scenic place present in India which is famous for its beauty and lakes. For the safety of the citizens and tourists have also laid down restrictions and imposed guidelines for the travelers.


  • Al the tourist travelling to J&K will have to undergo necessary RTPCR testing on arrival.
  • The tourists should have confirmed booking for their entire duration of stay.
  • The return tickets should also be confirmed and in place for tourists outside J&K.
  • Any tourist above the age group of 65 will not be allowed to visit valleys.
  • Tourism department has also laid guidelines to pre-book taxis /transport facility through hotel / travel agency.
  • It is necessary for tourists to have Aarogya Setu App installed on their phone at all the times and they need to check the safe status on arrival to J&K.
  1. Kerela: One of the most scenic places, Kerela has lot in store for the visitors. The new travel guidelines that have been released for the travelers.


  • The tourists visiting Kerela need to register themselves on Kerala government’s COVID-19 Jagratha portal and the short visits will be approved by district collectors after very

  • The itinerary needs to be shared in advance along with the accommodation details.
  • Social distancing norms and use of hand sanitizers and masks need to be followed.


  1. Punjab: Well known place of people associated to the roots. Punjab has allowed visitors and laid some guidelines.


  • COVA app needs to be downloaded on the phone of the person travelling to Punjab.
  • Formal Undertaking needs to be provided at the state border.
  • Formal declaration needs to be provided that the person is coming from a non-containment zone.
  • Health needs to be monitored at all times and any symptoms must be reported to 104.
  • Mask needs to be worn at all the times.
  1. Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu state has also permitted travel laying several guidelines.


  • All tourists need to obtain TN- E pass after registering on Tamil Nadu State website
  • COVID test for passengers arriving into Chennai from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi.
  • 14 days of home quarantine for all passengers arriving into Tamil Nadu from any other state.
  • The travel bookings and accommodations need to be made in advance.
  • Airlines need to ensure that passengers are carrying a valid Tamil Nadu e-pass.
  • Use of Mask and Sanitizers at all time.
  1. Uttar Pradesh: One of the biggest tourist spots that attracts thousands of tourists each year has laid some guidelines for travel.


  • International passengers coming into Uttar Pradesh are required to stay 7 days in institutional quarantine, and a further 7 days in home quarantine.
  • All passengers will go through mandatory thermal screening.
  • All passengers coming into Uttar Pradesh are required to register on the state website before exiting arrival.
  • If a passenger is leaving the state within 7 days, he or she is not required to stay in quarantine, but valid return documents must be produced.
  • The Aarogya Setu app must be downloaded to declare the status of health.
  1. Uttrakhand: Due to its mesmerizing beauty Uttarakhand attracts thousands of tourists each year. There are some guidelines that have been laid down for the safety of tourists.


  • Uttarakhand has exempted VIPs from quarantine
  • No restriction for tourists with negative Covid-19 reports.
  • Travelers coming from high load Covid-19 infected cities need to undertake seven days of institutional quarantine followed by seven days of home quarantine
  • All tourists need to register at before starting the journey and the same will be examined at the border posts.
  • Aarogya Setu App must be installed and health status must be updated.
  • Government employees and their support staff will be exempt from quarantine, though compliance with safety and social distancing rules is mandatory.
  1. Rajasthan: Travel guidelines laid for travel In Rajasthan.
  • You can travel to Rajasthan from other states. There is no pass required while entering the state.
  • Arogya Setu app needs to be installed and health status should be updated.
  • Hotel and accommodation bookings need to be done in advance.
  • Make sure you carry essentials like mask, hand sanitizer, soap etc. to keep yourself safe.
  1. Delhi: The capital of India has a lot in store for the tourists and as per the travel guidelines the tourists can travel following the below terms.


  • Arogya Setu app needs to be installed and health status should be updated.
  • Face Mask needs to be worn all the times and hand sanitizer must be in possession.
  • Those arriving at Delhi airport via a Vande Bharat flight, and have no connecting flight to take, will have to undergo institutional quarantine for seven days after their exit from the airport.
  • Only those who have confirmed tickets and no COVID symptoms will be allowed to board the train. If you have a confirmed ticket but show symptoms, your ticket cost will be refunded.
  1. Madhya Pradesh: Tourists Travelling to Madhya Pradesh must follow these guidelines.


  • Thermal screening and health profiling shall be done upon arrival and If passenger is found symptomatic, COVID test will be performed.
  • All passengers must download Aarogya Setu App.
  • All passengers are required to download the Indore 311 App & do a self-registration before arrival.
  • For business travelers there is no restriction if staying less than 3 days. While exiting the airport passengers need to inform admin official about the short stay.

So, these are the restrictions that have been laid on the major tourist hotspots to ensure the safety of the local residence and tourists. Along with the above mentioned it is mandate to wear facemask all the time as entry to any spots without a facemask will not be permitted and the tourists should also be in possession of hand sanitizers.
